Mission Statement

ARCTexas began in 2018 as Assisting Rural Communities – Texas, an effort to shine a light on the challenges facing small towns and rural regions across the state.

Texas is often portrayed through the lens of its major cities, Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, but the heart of Texas has always lived in its rural communities, ranchlands, farms, and small towns. These places face unique pressures that are often overlooked: water conservation challenges, land preservation issues, limited healthcare access, declining educational opportunities, and the steady migration of rural populations toward urban centers.

ARCTexas was created to bring attention to these realities and to explore practical conversations about the future of rural Texas.

Over time, the project evolved beyond articles and commentary into a broader digital storytelling initiative.
